Abstract: Surat is the largest city of South Gujarat having various small and large scale industries of pharmaceuticals, textiles, chemicals, paper and pulp, refineries etc. which contribute in industrial development of Gujarat but at the same time these industries pollute the aquatic ecosystems by the discharge of effluents in the water system. Hazira industrial area located on the bank of the Tapi estuary, is a major industrial destination of Surat where many multimillion industries are in operation. The city also discharges domestic as well as agricultural wastes in the Tapi estuary. Water quality of an aquatic ecosystem is increasingly becoming more noxious in the present day due to anthropogenic as well as industrial activities. The presence oil and grease in water bodies is undesirable since the pollutant create aesthetic as well as ecological problems. Present study was undertaken for the period of two years (2011-2013) in three sites of Tapi estuary with an objective to find out the distribution of oil and grease to monitor anthropogenic as well as industrial impacts. The concentration of oil and grease in water was found above the tolerance limit of aquatic organisms (0.1 mg/l) and permissible limit of effluent discharge (10mg/l). Among three sites significant difference was observed for the first year (P<0.05) and year wise insignificant difference was observed (P>0.05). The study reported that the concentrations of oil and grease found in the estuary are of high environmental impact and this needs to be given proper attention.

Abstract: Direct Ethanol Fuel cells are of interest due to the high energy density, law toxicity of Ethanol and handling. Difficulties lie in finding a catalyst that can completely oxidize ethanol. Degradation of the catalyst layer over time is also an issue that needs to be addressed. To increase the DEFC performance, oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) needs to be enhanced. Now a day’s Pt and Pd based catalyst are used to increase the DEFC performance. But this catalyst cost is very high. So it is required to find cheaper catalyst to increase the performance of DEFC. In this work carbon supported Ag is used as cathode catalyst, which is produced by simple solution method. They are characterised by X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM).The electro catalytic activity of Ag electro catalyst for the ORR in acid media shows a favourable performance of the Membrane Electrode Assembly (MEA) prepared with 20% Ag/C catalyst in a single polymer electrolyte membrane fuel cell (PEMFC). But the fuel cell performance with 20% Ag/C is lower than Pd/C catalyst.

Abstract: As in any chemical process industries the area of concern is the usage of energy & efficiency of energy conversion systems. As in any chemical process industries energy losses in the form of waste heat occur to surrounding because of lower conversion efficiencies for conversion of heat to other form of energies. These heat losses or waste heat can be utilized to generate electricity using the concept of electricity generation. The paper focuses on the basic concept of converting the waste heat to thermoelectricity and the conceptual architecture design, as well as on the subcomponent manufacturing and assembly for the thermoelectric generator implementation on flue stacks. Finally it focuses on the theoretical and practical calculation of power generated from the proposed architecture for thermoelectric generators. The results from the analytical model shows that TEGs have good future scope in chemical process industries for thermoelectricity generation from the waste heat of flue gases.

Abstract: Elevated Service Reservoir are extensively used for storing water, inflammable liquids, and other chemicals, the present day designs of the supporting structures of the ESR’s are extremely vulnerable against lateral forces generated by an earthquake, and the Bhuj earthquake showed us an example where many water tanks were severely damaged and a few collapsed. These structures has large mass concentrated at the top of slender supporting structure hence these structure are especially vulnerable to horizontal forces due to earthquakes. The aim of this paper is to provide a literature review and discuss about the authors who investigated about the seismic behavior of Elevated Service Reservoir’s. Various methods and analysis have been adapted by all the authors to study and analyze the seismic behavior of the ESR’s. Software simulation of the ESR’s has been done using FEM software and the behavior of the ESR is studied under lateral loads.

Abstract: In the freeze-drying process, the fresh materials or wet materials preprocessed in some way, are cooled until their temperature is lower than the the eutectic point and the internal moisture of the materials is fully frozen, forming solid ice. Then, the air is extracted out of the drying chamber appropriately until the vacuum degree is up to a certain value. The hot plate is heated to a proper temperature, and the ice is sublimated into water vapor directly. Vacuum freeze-drying technology, is also called lyophilization. By studying a design of freeze dryer the efficient system can be designed for varies purposes. The design complies with all standard thermo dynamic principals. For capacity of 5kg of fruit product ,freeze dryer is designed. For this system chamber size is design radius 370mm and length 450mm. Shell and tube type condenser design radius 168.5mm , length 1000mm and 75 tubes in condenser.

Abstract: Electrodeionization (EDI) process becoming increasingly popular as pretreatment steps or as replacements for ion-exchange systems altogether. EDI removes ions (organic and inorganic) using semi-permeable membranes and ion exchange resins that are continuously regenerated by an electric field. It can provide very high levels of demineralization and offer the advantage of continuous operation. Moreover, this processes is not as mechanically complex as ion-exchange systems.

Abstract: This Paper explains the Fixture Design for VMC-430 (3-Axis) machine. It consist basic understanding about types of Fixture design like Introduction of Fixture, Types of Fixtures and the different approaches which are used in the related fixture design. The main objective of the report is to design the fixture for complex geometry. This geometry is having different machining operation. Major operations are Face Milling, Hole Drilling and Counter boring on different sides. These operations are to be carried out in VMC-430 keeping the objective of minimization of the cycle time as well. As the Geometry of the component is very complex, ample amount of inputs are provided from the modeling work itself which has been done using Solidworks 2013.For designing the fixture various setups of the fixture has been created followed with the analysis in ANSYS-14.5. Experimental work has been carried out in VMC-430 (3 Axis) for the justification of the results obtained in the analysis software ANSYS-14.5.
